RAINWATER HARVESTING - ABOUT
What is Rainwater Harvesting?
Rainwater harvesting is the collection of rainwater for reuse on-site rather than encouraging run off. Rooftop rainwater harvesting is when the collection surface is a roof, and is the most common type of residential rainwater harvesting. If contamination is minimal rainwater provides a sustainable and high quality source of water.
Two notions to dispell immediately:
That rainwater harvesting is a dated technology that has little real-world practicability.
That rainwater harvesting has poor results that make the water unpleasant and difficult to use.
Even though capturing rainwater had been accomplished as much as 4,000 years ago in India, Greece, and Palestine, rainwater harvesting technology has been continually developed since then and has adopted many of the practices used in modern water systems. Current design standards have created a foundation to ensure rainwater harvesting systems produce water of high quality that will safeguard human and public health.
Cleanflo rainwater harvesting systems proactively limit contaminants by utilizing the preventative approach to water supply. This is accomplished by limiting initial contaminants in the rain water or source water. This is compared to the current avenue to water treatment of retroactively removing contaminants from the source water (i.e. well, lake, river or pond). Using the proactive preventive approach, rainwater becomes far less expensive than other water sources because it is much easier to treat and does not need to be moved large distances. Cleanflo rainwater harvesting systems can supply 100% of your water needs for minimal ongoing costs.
A correctly designed rainwater harvesting system includes the 7 major components described below. Prefilter, Rainwater Tank, Calming Inlet, Floating Filter, Skimming Overflow, Pump, and Treatment. Cleanflo Water Technologies’ design process is suitable for residential to large commercial systems for any water applications and demand requirements.

DESIGN AND BUILD SOLUTION
Complete, packaged rainwater harvesting solution are available for home, commercial, agriculture, cottages, and acreages,
From simple residential garden systems to large commercial underground multi-tank systems.
Cleanflo manages the entire process, from consultation to design to installation.
These systems can be incorporated into a new build or retrofitted into an existing building for a variety of uses (outdoor, toilet flushing/laundry, potable, etc.).
As these large rainwater harvesting systems are integrated right into a building’s infrastructure, they are considered mechanical systems and require multiple building permits (electrical, plumbing, structural, etc.). Cleanflo takes care of supplying the required engineered drawings for permitting purposes. These drawings can be purchased in conjunction with a system, or by engineers, architects and other design professionals as stand-alone documents. Complete system drawings can then be worked directly into project plans.
The Cleanflo team can also incorporate Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria into rainwater harvesting projects and can maximize LEED points related to rainwater harvesting and storm water management. Cleanflo also provides support for clients desiring green building credits through the LEED program by incorporating credits under the following criteria:
Water use reduction
Innovative wastewater technology
Stormwater design; quality control
Water efficiency; landscaping
Innovation in design
